Polymaker PolySmooth PVB 0.75kg 1.75 mm

PVB filament for smooth surfaces through suitable IPA post-processing

Material PVB
Diameter 1.75 mm
Weight0.75 kg
Surfacesmoothable

Product Description

Polymaker PolySmooth is a PVB filament for FDM/FFF 3D printers and is particularly suitable for models, prototypes, presentation objects, and decorative prints where the smoothest possible surface is desired.

After printing, the material can be smoothed with suitable IPA post-processing. This can reduce visible layer lines and achieve a more even, glossy surface. Post-processing should be done carefully, in a controlled manner, and only in a well-ventilated environment.

PolySmooth prints with similar settings to PLA but is based on PVB. The filament is more hygroscopic than PLA and should therefore be stored dry. If moisture is absorbed, Polymaker recommends drying it before printing.

The actual surface effect depends on the print profile, layer height, model geometry, post-processing, and color.

Frequently Asked Questions about PVB Filament

What is PVB filament used for?

PVB filament is often used for decorative models, visual prototypes and prints that benefit from a smooth, glossy surface finish.

Can PVB prints be smoothed?

Yes. PVB is known for its ability to be smoothed with suitable alcohol-based post-processing methods. Always follow safety instructions and use proper ventilation.

Is PVB suitable for functional parts?

PVB is mainly chosen for visual quality and surface finish. For highly stressed functional parts, materials such as PETG, ASA, ABS or PC-ABS may be more suitable.

Is PVB similar to PLA?

PVB can be relatively easy to print like PLA, but it is mainly valued for its special surface finish and smoothing properties.

What should be considered when post-processing PVB?

Use suitable equipment, follow the manufacturer instructions and ensure good ventilation. Alcohol-based smoothing should be handled carefully and away from ignition sources.

How should PVB filament be stored?

PVB should be stored dry and protected from moisture. Dry filament helps achieve cleaner surfaces and more consistent print results.
